The ISCP Diploma in Understanding Animal Cruelty is a contemporary and ground-breaking look at the relationships between animal cruelty and inter-human violence. It combines aspects of human psychology, anthrozoology and canine behaviour to examine the causes of animal and human directed violence by humans, the links between animal abuse and domestic violence and the early indicators of such incidents.

It explores perpetrator profiles and early indicators of violence in children and young people and what to look for when working with animals that may have been victims of non-accidental harm.

The course will be useful for those working within the fields of animal protection, domestic violence, safeguarding children, or any related professions or anyone interested in what makes humans behave in these ways and what can be done to sensitively support those who are victims of violence.

The course confronts challenging and difficult subject matter but brings an important and under-reported issue into the public domain.

The course tutor is Teresa Tyler MA, who is a psychotherapist and counsellor, anthrozoologist, certified canine behaviourist and veterinary nurse, with a keen interest in human/non-human interactions.
