The ISCP level 5 Diploma in Dog Training leads to the title ISCP Certified Dog Trainer for graduates. This comprehensive distance learning course involves a great deal of practical application and the submission of videos as well as written work. The course takes you through every aspect of how to teach dogs using purely force-free, compassionate methods, and includes how to assist handlers in training classes.
This course has been designed so that both pet caregivers and professionals can learn science-based methods and foundation skills for training dogs. Students can improve their ability to communicate with their dogs to have willing, happy dogs who can learn desired behaviours through fun, reward-based techniques. Additional instruction files and videos are included with the modules.

Module 1 Learning Theories and Preparation for Training
Understand how your dog learns and teach him or her how to learn. Watch your dog become an interested and enthusiastic partner during any training session and have fun whilst working together. Recognise the importance of your observation skills and develop essential handler foundation skills to give clear communication to any dog during the learning process. Equip yourself with knowledge and the essentials in your trainer’s toolkit ready for some practice and a positive approach to training any dog.
Module 2 Communication and Play During Training
Become a well prepared and interesting canine tutor with an understanding of the physiological effects of play during the learning process. Understand the individual dog by recognising body language and understanding life stages. Incorporate play into training sessions and become quick to recognise what makes your dog tick and want to stay in the learning game. Develop a skill set and techniques for optimum results during training.
Module 3 Handler Skills and Reinforcement Strategies
Understand the importance and complexities of reinforcement and develop ways to optimise the learning outcome, recognise the schedules of reinforcement and many reinforcement strategies used to complement your training sessions. Deepen your understanding of operant conditioning, recognise your dog’s choices and the consequences of these.
Module 4 Emotions and Learning
Deepen your understanding of classical conditioning and understand why it is important you take a dog’s emotional state into consideration at all times during any training session. Teach new behaviours and practice the use of the clicker for different exercises and outcomes. Examples of how to transfer stimulus control and make use of this in everyday situations. Understand the handler, develop ways to assist and guide them where needed to get good results and ensure that they maintain a good relationship with their dog throughout any session.
Module 5 Teaching New Behaviours, Training Techniques and Protocols
Understand the dog you are working with, the breed, learning style, individual interests and abilities. Practice your shaping skills, understand and compare the difference between free shaping and guided shaping. Learn how to train linear behaviour chains effectively, capture behaviours, and have fun putting these on cue. Become familiar with foundation exercises and a training plan, your choice of techniques and protocols before you start training. Become aware of the many elements to consider when you design your own training session.
Module 6 Maintaining and Fine-Tuning Skills
Deepen your knowledge of operant conditioning and the effects of punishment and reinforcement. Have fun with training games and a better understanding of secondary reinforcers for a variety of exercises. Fine tune your skills, develop your ability to break exercises down, and understand the positive outcomes and improvements that can be made by working this way. Recognise ways to prevent frustration in any session and prepare for this. Have fun!

Refunds: There is an optional 14 day cooling off period during which you can ask for a refund on your course fee. However, as the course files are sent electronically, this means we would need to delay sending the course files until after the 14 day period is over. If you wish to take advantage of a cooling off period please send an email to our secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org to inform her of your decision, immediately after purchasing. If you do not email the secretary we will assume that you have chosen to receive the files immediately and that you are happy to waive your right to a 14 day cooling off period and the option of a refund. Our secretary will send your files as soon as she receives your form if you have chosen to start the course immediately.
